Helen Moore can truly be defined as a family owned and run business. Helen and her husband Stan first started the company in 1982. Both graduates of Goldsmiths Art School, with Helen specializing in Textiles and Stan in fine art they have built the company up, selling exquisite faux fur pieces, over the past 30 years whilst also raising three children, Tom, Joey and Hester. The business has operated out of their ever expanding premises in a small village situated between Dartmoor and Exmoor in rural Devon. Whilst their children grew they pursued different paths but have come back to be a part of the family business in some way. Tom runs the greetings card side of the business and Hester, who also studied at Goldsmiths, now works on the design side of the brand. She also works at trade and retail shows and represents Helen Moore in the USA. It is a refreshingly un-corporate look at business with family life intertwining with everything they do. Whichever area of the business the family or the employees work in they all share a total passion and belief in the Helen Moore brand, what it stands for the fantastic and unique products they make.
For the Helen Moore brand supporting their local village community is of utmost importance. By employing local people, they ensure the product is ethical and of the best quality. It is a business with honest, reliable and sustainable values that has remained true to these for over 30 years. This is really a British Heritage brand through and through which is something we love here at Hoochie Mama! They export all over the world as ‘Made In England’ brands are now so popular and sought after in international markets as people know it represents quality and expert design.
They credit their success down to the attention to detail in their designs, only choosing the most soft and sumptuous of faux furs of which every component is cut by hand. The community feel of the brand even comes across in their designs with a lot of the inspirations for collection coming from their customers and staff. These ideas are then developed by their designers for production. And what amazing pieces they are! Perfect for the cold english weather, a Helen Moore scarf is what your neck (and your wardrobe) has been craving.
The faux fur collars are a Hoochie Mama favourite and will add an element of Hollywood Glamour to your evening or daytime look. Plus they are extremely comfortable and warm adding an element of practicality which is sometimes hard to find with good-looking accessories. Also did we mention how soft they are? Walking round with anything from their collection is just a dream for your hands to roam over and extremely comforting. After all it’s not exactly acceptable to carry your cat to work (unfortunately) for a cuddle so these faux furry items are just as good as the real deal but ethical making them a true delight.
